Naml'.

ALLAH (SWT) divides people in the 'grateful' one's and the 'ungratefulness'.

Al-Nahl 16:53 - Whatever ALLAH grants good; it is from ALLAH.
So, gratitude helps to correct our perceptions that whatever we have is not on it's own volition but it happens from ALLAH.

AL- Duha 93: 8

ALLAH says that He found you poor and made you rich.

Gratitude helps to ward off punishment

An Nisa: verse 147.

Shukr is a means to ward off punishment and if we are thankful to ALLAH (SWT) then, less chance of punishment. So, Gratitude is not an OPTION.
-------

Gratitude helps us to slow down;

We must tame our 'nafs';

if we can't find happiness with what we have today then we can't find happiness in tomorrow.

So, we must find contentment in what we have already been blessed with because ALLAH (SWT) has already granted us what we need. The most important being Iman and health!

If the son of Adam, has one valley, he will wish for 2; if has 3 he will wish for 3; so only the dust will fill his stomach and he will not be satisfied! Hadith. - reported by Ahmad.

Patience with dealing with resisting desires is easier;

But going along with the desires; then the patience dealing with the consequences is harder because it bring pain and torment! It cuts off the blessings and it has a negative impact on the person's behaviour and character!

Negative deeds have a greater impact on a person's character and stay for a long time!
