<p class="\"><span>It simply means to raise the hands during prayer. When people begin their Salah, they raise their hands to signify that they have left all things and submitted towards ALLAH's Unity.<span> </span></span><span><br /> <br /> <span>The Hanifis (members of Ahl as-Sunnah Wa 'Jama'a) believe that this act of raising the hands to the level of ears should be undertaken at the start of the prayer and not during it.</span><br /> <br /> <span>There are those who hold the opinion that raf' al-yadayn should also be done before and after the ruku'; because:</span><br /> <br /> <span>1. The Prophet (SAW) used to do this;</span><br /> <br /> <span>2. This was the practice by the 10 Companions of the Prophet (SAW) who were given glad tidings of Jannah on this earth during their life time.<span> </span></span><br /> <br /> <span>3. RAF ay-Yadayn are mutawatir (Hadith narrated by many authentic narrators during the period of the Companions, (the Tabi'un, and their students).<span> </span></span><br /> <br /> <span>4. RAF ay-ayadyn is a pillar of Salah and leaving it makes the Salah invalid.<span> </span></span><br /> <br /> <span>Hanifi Madhab is towards the end of our beloved Prophet (SAW). The practice of RAF al-Yadayn had been abrogated, the Prophet (SAW) during his last prayers in this world only performed raf' al-Yadayn at the beginning of his Salah.<span> </span></span><br /> <br /> <span>Shafi Madhab. Bukhari Vol. 1, page 188.<span> </span></span><br /> <br /> <span>The Salaf also prescribe to it.<span> </span></span></span></p>
