1. Diseases of the Heart ---------------------------- Surah Ya'sin - (Warning) We are warned about 2 people who came to warn the town's people of ALLAH's punishment, yet the town's people threatened them in return. The ALLAH says,  "Azazna bithalithin: We gave them 'iza with a third". ALLAH (SWT) gives Iza to whomever He wants.  ALLAH says: "ya'izu man yasha'u Wa yudhilu man yasha'u.  Tu'izu man tasha'u Wa tadilu man tasha'u: You give Iza to whomever you want, you humble whomever You want."  There are people today on the streets begging and their ancestors ruled the world!  2. The tongue - is the Heart's articulator --------------------------------------------- There is no salvation like the salvation of the heart because every limb answers to the heart! If you Heart is saved then, your limbs are saved.  In a hadith, it says:  "the heart lies under the tongue"  Which means the tongue is the interpreter of the heart as it tells the heart what is in it! Hadith warns us that the tongue tajes us to the hellfire!  For this reason, ALLAH (SWT) says: "Ya ayuhallathina amanuttaqu Allah Wa Qulu quwlan Sadida. Yuslih Lakum a'amalakum ....33:70-71. ALLAH tells you to be upright in the way you speak because the tongue serves to translate what is in the heart, this is an indication of the heart is upright!  According to a Hadith, all the limbs shake every morning when they wake up in the spiritual world and say to the tongue: "itaqi Allah fina ini istakamta istakmina Wa ini'wajajta i'wajajna: Fear ALLAH with us because if you are straight, we are straight, if you go crooked, we are all crooked.  Good deal of spiritual work must be performed and dhikr of ALLAH.  3. Obligation of the pure heart ---------------------------------- Knowledge of the diseases of the heart!  It is incumbent on every Muslim to remove them; it is a binding obligation on every Muslim.  Qur'an 91:9-10 Qad aflaha man zakaha Wa qad khaba man dasaha The one who nurtures his soul is the one who has success, and the one who stunts it's growth is destroyed.  91: 9-10. Tazkiyah of the nafs.  ALLLAH says: "Yawma la yanfa'u malun Wa la banuna illa man ata Allah bi qalban salim:  On that day, neither wealth nor children will benefit, only one who comes with pure heart"  26:88-89 The only people saved are people with qulub salima (sound hearts)  "Salim" (sound) is related to the word  "aslama" because Islam is moving towards that state of soundness.  Disease of the heart! Not paying zakat Another disease - Madahana (using religion to benefit the world) Trying to impress others (riyaa). It is lesser polytheism.  The prophet (SAAW) said, he fears riyaa for his Ummah.  Ghazali suggested 3 types of worship: ----------------------------------------- 1. Worship of a freeman: to please ALLAH; 2. Worship of a merchant: (if I do this, then I will earn Jannah); 3. Worship of a slave: for fear of Hellfire.  ALLAH encourages us to repent and strive for Jannah.  He uses both 2 and 3.  Tamaa is your desiring something.  ALLAH is Ar-Razzaq - we are Marzuq and we are getting rizq! 2 types of rizq: 1. Rizq batini - hidden/inward rizq, like your knowledge, character, company, etc. 2. Rizq Dhahiri: Outward/manifest rizq like your food, health, wealth etc. The same people keep coming back to your life. Earth had 5 billion people. This is because our company is part of our rizq. It maybe that your rizq lies in another person's hands.  Asbab - means that leads you to get your rizq. You are a guest of someone. That dinner you eat is part of your rizq.  4. Extended Hopes --------------------- World divided up into 2 types of people:  1. Saeed-felicitous  2. Shaqee-Wretched.  Aristotle who is the foundational to western philosophy wrote a book on "ethics". He wrote the goal of life is leisure and happiness.  Forgetting Akhirah!  Going after Duniyah!  5. Anger - some element is important otherwise injustices would go unchecked! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ghazali identified 4 types of souls: 1. Quwwatul IIm - the rational soul which has power related to what man knows. 2. Qawwatul Ghadab- irrasible soul. This element relates to emotions basis of anger. Rumi said, wisdom behind the prohibition of Khamar is the core of man. We are otherwise veiled by the Rahma of ALLAH but when we drink, we are exposed and the veil is removed. 3. Qawwatul Shahwa - this is appetitive soul.  4. Qawwatul Adl- this is the power that harmonizes the above 3.  Those powers within the soul are related to the cardinal virtues (which Christians and other traditions).  When the rational soul is balanced then, the result is Hikmah!  The only human who balanced these is the Prophet (SAAW).  The worst vessel son of Adam can fill is hid stomach; justice of stomach! 1/3 fir food; 1/3 for water;  1/3 for air.  6. Fakhar/kibr (pride) ------------------------ Kibar is old age! Kibr is arrogance!  Root is kabura to be big or grow old! Kabir - is great! Kibrun is the manifestation of kibr in the heart!  Takkabar is when it manifestsin the limbs! (action)
